Self-Rotating CutterThe self-rotating cutter is an invention from Champion Equipment Company. Its construction, working arrangement, and method of operation is covered by U.S. Patent 5520444 and pending PCT International Patent WO 96/27072. The self-rotating cutter has a rotatable cutting bit, general circular, which is mounted and displaced so that the cutting bit has an attack angle between 90° to 120°, and a skew angle between 5° and 40°. The cutting bit has a convex front face and relief rake angles that vary along the perimeter of the cutting edge. The photo pictures below show the test of the self-rotate cutter bit fitted to Kennametal CDC, gantry mounted, 24" wide test drum.
